<P>Among the cluttered tables and book-filled shelves, a hulking figure stared out at the city below. It slowly turned, revealing a creature as much metal as man. Eyeing her weapon, he spoke with the air of a man with a very long road ahead of him. 
<P>
<P>"This was not the course of events I wanted, Renee. I hope you forgive the intrusion, though I do not particularly care either way. I am here because I need to know where he is going and whether you're going to follow him."

<P>She kept the pistol steady.
<P>
<P>"I don't work for Quinn any more, Agent. All I'm going to do is open a bottle of Scotch and remember old friends."

<P>Malcolm turned back to the window, and slowly nodded. "A comforting idea."
